‘Small But Mighty, Xavier Mission is There for New Yorkers in Need’

By Marc Bussanich

New York, NY—The Executive Director of the Xavier Mission likes to describe her organization as small but mighty. It has helped hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers in need since its founding, especially in moments of crisis such as Hurricane Sandy and the COVID-19 pandemic.

Founded in 1983 by the Church of St. Francis Xavier, Xavier Mission is a FOR-Impact organization that operates six community outreach programs that provide a variety of services for New Yorkers facing tough times.

Cassandra Agredo, the executive director, says it’s important to distinguish Xavier Mission as a “FOR-Impact” organization rather than a non-profit because the term “non-profit” does not accurately convey the organization’s mission and day-to-day work.
